Show Don't Tell

As he opened the door, a rotten smell shot his nose. The paint crawled down the door frame as the floorboard creaked when he walked to his bed.

This is a part of my story where I used a writing strategy called "Show, Don't Tell". Here is and example: TELL - I had good supper last night. SHOW - Last night I slurped down some good food which was a palatable combination of sauce, veggies, spices, and spaghetti. My show don't tell was about one of the characters entering a house.

Narrative Plan - Outstanding Opening

In a house close to the city named Metropolis-, there lived a so called man, Zakh “Insane” Miller. Zakh has a reputation of doing illegal things like stealing and pickpocketing other people. He did those things to buy materials for a special project he is working on. As the sun set, he started hdashing home. As he opened the door, a rotten smell hit his nose. The paint crawled down the door frame as the floorboard creaked when he walked to his bed.

This is my number talks I did with Jonathan, Ved and Nelvin. The problem was "0.8 + 0.7=?". First we had to do it solo in our corner then we have to explain our solution and see what connections we could make between our solutions..

Name: Tech (Originally named “Android 87” by his creator but then “Android 87” decided to change his name to Tech)
Type/Species: Robot
Gender: N/A
Date of Creation: Highly Classified (21-7-3587)

Appearance: Tech is made of solid metal from the scrap yard (and the metal has been cleaned) and bought from the local metal warehouse. He shines as the sunlight reflects off of him. His creator painted him metallic grey. You can see his advanced mechanism as his neck and in between a gap near his shoulders.

He’s in a futuristic world trying to figure out the meaning of life. He will face difficult challenges along the way. He makes some friends as he travels the land and will meet a savage being enslaving innocent people.

Maths - Cogs

What - Today we had to continue our collaborative maths about cogs and the learning intention was to work together collaboratively. In our groups we all have our own roles and I will explain my role.

So What - For our cog activity we had to colour one tooth on the cog and then figure out which pairs (of cog) would go / fit together in each slot and what we would clarify or call the cog as was the amount of teeth each cog would have for example a cog with 3 tooth would be called or clarified as "3". A pair of cogs that would fit together is 4,5 and also 5,6. A way that our habitat found to know which ones would work together was if you put an even number and another even number together it would work and a even and odd together, it would also work but if you put odd and odd together it wouldn't work and the reason is that if you do even times another even number it would be even and odd and even would also be even but if you times two odd numbers together it wouldn't work because the sum is an odd number. At first I found it difficult but once the learning coach told us the way I just told you it was easier. Now I'll explain my role. My role is called "Questioner/Includer". The includer bit is my secondary job / role and if anyone is away i will be their substitute. Now for the questioner. (Not Finished)

Olympics

What sport would you like to represent NZ in at the Olympics?
I would like to add a new sport to the Olympics if I could and that would be dodge-ball. The rules would be: Teams of 7, Shoulders / Below, Catch on foul, a player that is out come in and person who threw it is out. (and other normal dodge-ball rules etc.)

Why
The reason that I would like to do dodge-ball is because I like playing dodge-ball (obviously) and also because I am pretty good at it. (But I still need to work on catching)

What do you think would help you be the best?
Always try my hardest and keep practising so eventually I can be the best. Have a coach to coach me along my journey to become the best.

#Classified

Today is the day that we do Classified. We have to Skype a moostery school and find out their school name, island, region and address. We asked them our first question and it was "are you on the South Island" and we managed to get it correct. That means we figured out their island. Then we asked " Are you in the south land region?" and it was correct on our first try. So that means we guessed their region. Then we started guessing what they are near and then we asked if they were on/near highway 6 and it was correct again. We then figured the closest one was probably Limehills School. Yay, we guessed their school name so that means we have won the classified challenge. Limehills School just need to guess our school name so we carried on until they guessed that our school is Ormiston Primary. At the end we all had fun.
What we figured out was that they are on the South Island, South Land region and their school name is Limehills.

VideoNot.es

Today was just another day. IExplore was today's first thing to do. I was feeling kinda tired because I went to bed a bit late but I like iExplore so that won't stop me from getting one step closer to finishing my iExplore with my amazing buddy Ved. We managed to finish our VideoNot.es.😃

Swimming Fun

On every Monday, all the year 3-7 go to Otara Swimming Pools and get trained by professionals how to swim and get better at it. I was feeling pretty confident to swim. Before we got to swim we had to do some test so they could see what group we are going to be in. There were three groups, group one, group two and group three. I got into group 3 and we were first doing freestyle to see how far we can swim. In my opinion I think I did okay. Next time I could probably try breathing more and I really hope I can achieve that goal.

Soccer History

Today was history. My school OrmPS played in a soccer (or football) tournament with multiple other schools. We had two teams, one was a year five group and the other was the year six team (which I'm in). The learning coaches that were supporting us was Mr. McNeil and Mr. Dyer. Our first game was unlucky but it's not bad because it was our first game. I started as sub and I was feeling normal as usual but once It's my turn to go on the field I got shot with nervousness because I didn't know what to do as a defender. But eventually I got the hang of it. Time for the last match. I was now confident since I knew what to do for defender so I didn't panic. But it turns out that I'm not defender. When I got called onto the field I was striker and once I heard that I tried to stay calm. I was in luck because even If I failed we could still win because if they score, we would still have one more point than the other team and also we have a good player(or friend) that was mid-field which is basically like a striker and he could score some goals. We managed to win which was a great achievement for OrmPS. We had a mini celebration at the end. My next step would be to get better at every position at soccer.
